About my blog
Posted by Billy on November 30, 1999 under General AtheismThe term "Atheist" often has negative connotations like "evil", "lack morals", and even "satanic". This is the result of misleading information, mainly from theists. People commonly think of religious people as "good people", which, by definition, isn't necessarily true. In fact, it's usually not true. Just because theists believe in a higher power, doesn't mean they are morally perfect. Likewise, just because an Atheist doesn't believe in a higher poiwer, it doesn't mean they lack morality.
In American society, many have negative views towards muslims because we live in a christian-dominated society and are able to have an objective, free-thinking view on the obsessions, absurdities and cruel lengths that muslims will go to in the name of their God. Unfortunately, the majority of people in the U.S. don't have this freethinking available to them for Christianity. They are brought up that way and think it's the norm. In the United States, the average Atheist, and his/her defiance to religion, is considered bad and evil because they challenge the norm: Christianity. Contrary to popular belief, Atheists don't hate Christians. I may bash them here and there in my blog, but it is really not my intent. We are all human beings. Christians just so happen to be the most judgmental.
Anyone who is religious will tell you that an Atheist will go to "hell", and it's this kind of foolish, close-minded thinking that inspired this blog. I have created this website as a space where I can post my personal ideas relating to religion and Atheism, as well as other areas of interest: science & politics.
And remember kids! Atheism can be backed up with factual science. However, religion is a colossal leap of faith. So here's to supporting science, not superstition!
